The former is preferable as the time available for special needs pupils to do work is not infinite! t Limit the space the pupil has to fill. t Use different coloured paper for instructions and worksheets and for the pupil to write on. ) t Colour code the instructions, using an agreed coding system. t Use cloze procedures. Open-ended tasks are overwhelming for some pupils, for example, pupils who work sequentially and do not plan ahead. t Minimize written work or allow pupil to record in different way, for example producing an audio record of the work, or voice recognition technology (make sure the student is trained) or by use of specifically prepared supporting worksheets.
